On March 20, 2019 Orkla Latvija completed assessing procurement for the construction of the new Laima production facility. After a thorough evaluation of 12 applications submitted for the project, construction company Merks was selected to build the new Laima facility. The total contract amount is EUR 8 920 000. The contract will be signed soon, so that construction of the facility in Ādaži could commence this spring and production process at Laima’s new home could begin in 2020. On the land parcel purchased for the project, access roads have already been built and power cables laid for the infrastructure of the new production facility, and the street along the property has been named Laimas Street.
“With a special responsibility, we build a sustainable production facility for our Laima that will enable us to combine traditions, chocolate masters experience and top-quality standards in a modern building. The new production facility will be the basis for the production of highest-class sweets in Latvia and will also make a significant contribution to the future development. Laima has always developed in pace with time, and this project is the next major step towards further growth, as well as to strengthen the competitiveness,” says Toms Didrihsons, “Orkla Confectionery & Snacks Latvija” CEO.
February 25 was the last date for submitting applications to the tender announced to select a contractor for the construction of the new Laima production facility in Ādaži. In total, 12 applications were received from the leading Latvian construction companies as well as international construction groups.
As informed previously, Orkla Latvija in the coming years will invest several million euros in construction of a new Laima production facility in Ādaži and in the development of Laima brand. These investments will follow more than EUR 23 million that Orkla has already invested in Latvian sweets and snacks business over the past four years.
Taking into account the announcement about construction of a competence centre for biscuits and wafers, a decision was made in 2018 to consider joint development of the two projects in order to make a better use of the opportunities presented by infrastructure synergies. It will also guarantee that both – the new Laima production facility and the new biscuit and wafer production facility will be designed according to the same set of standards.
