On January 22, 2020, at 6 Laimas Street in Ādaži, a time capsule has been placed in the new “Laima” production facility, storing good wishes from The Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Latvia, Kaspars Gerhards, “Orkla” group and “Orkla Latvija” team, Ādaži Municipality and “Merks” construction company’s representatives. Significantly, the placing of the capsule almost completes the last stage of the construction facilities construction, so that the building can be commissioned already in the second half of this year.
The Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Latvia, Kaspars Gerhards, put a special message in the time capsule for the future of the “Laima” brand and the company, and a part of “Trifele” candy packaging, symbolizing the power of ancient Latvian values and traditions and underscoring the importance of continuing these values in the future. The chairman of Ādaži municipality Māris Sprindžuks symbolically added to the capsule the latest issue of the local newspaper “Ādažu Vēstis”, underscoring the successful cooperation between the municipality and the company. “Merks” construction company’s board chairman Oskars Ozoliņš on behalf of the company placed a coin representing seasons in the capsule, wishing success in further development of “Orkla Latvija”. “Orkla” group representative, CEO of “Orkla Confectionery & Snacks”, Jeanette Hauan Fladby added packaging of different kinds of candies made by the group to the capsule, symbolizing cooperation opportunities within the group that will be opened by the new “Laima” production facility. And, finally, “Orkla Latvija” CEO Toms Didrihsons added a special letter on behalf of the whole company and favourite “Laima” candy from his childhood – “Serenāde”.
“Every new production facility and investment in our country prove that Latvians are skilful businessmen and are able to prove with their craftsmanship that Latvia is the right and only place for investments in business development. The new “Laima” production facility project proves that “Orkla Latvija” is one of the companies that is working not only on developing new products, but also on developing historic and beloved brands here in Latvia, attracting investments that help foster overall national economic development. Therefore, it is important to support those producers whose products are made here in Latvia. I wish success to “Orkla Latvija” team in continuation of the Latvian confectionery industry story in a new line of development,” said the Minister of Agricultural of the Republic of Latvia, Kaspars Gerhards.

I am very proud of what we have achieved, and I know that this is a result of hard work and both brave, and right, decisons for both the factory design and for Orkla Confectionery & Snacks as a business area. We are very proud to invest in and to continue to develop Laima, to ensure that it will remain the beloved brand which it has been for centuries. Within this capsule I am putting some samples of our great confectionery brands, products and designs from different countries across the Orkla Confectionery and Snacks businesses – Laima, Kalev, Panda, Sratos and Smash,” said CEO of “Orkla Confectionery & Snacks”, Jeanette Hauan Fladby.
“2020 is a very significant year for our company because Latvia’s beloved sweet brand marks its 150th anniversary and this is the same year when our new, modern and sustainable “Laima” production facility will open its doors for the years in the future. I am grateful to our determined team that hand in hand with builders and our partners has worked to implement this project. At present we have nearly completed construction of the building, and we should start works to prepare for moving the production facility so that in the second half of 2020 we are able to open the doors of the new “Laima” production facility that will be the foundation for further development of “Laima” and “Orkla Latvija”, as well as the whole confectionery industry,” said “Orkla Latvija” board chairman Toms Didrihsons.
As reported, “Orkla Latvija” has invested EUR 20 million in implementation of this project – construction of the new “Laima” production facility in Ādaži and further development of the brand.
