Today, September 9, a new “Laimas” production facility will be opened in a ceremony in Ādaži at 6 Laimas Street. Participating in the ceremony will be Prime Minister of the Republic of Latvia, Krišjānis Kariņš, “Orkla Latvija” Chairman of the Board Toms Didrihsons, “Orkla Confectionery & Snacks” CEO Ingvill Tarberg Berg and other guests.
20 million euros has been invested in the new production facility and the development of “Laima” brand over the past three years. This is one of the biggest investments in Latvian food industry.
The total area of the new plant is more than 7200 m2. It is a modern and energy-efficient production facility with a well thought out production flow, which ensures efficiency and high product quality. It is also a functional and comfortable working environment for more than 100 employees. In addition, it houses a modern product development lab, which will develop and improve new products in “Laima” confectionery brand’s range for the enjoyment of families in Latvia and elsewhere in the world.
““Laima” is a rich in traditions confectionery brand truly loved in Latvia, which is celebrating its 151st anniversary this year. During the past one and a half century, there have been countless significant developments both at the company and in the confectionery industry. Today we are enjoying the fruits of our work, work that the “Orkla” team and our partners have been doing for the last couple of years so “Laima” would have a new home. We have successfully implemented the construction plan and the development strategy, and the new “Laima” plant will not only turn a new page in the history of the Latvian confectionery industry, it will start a new chapter,” says Toms Didrihsons, Chairman of the Board at “Orkla Latvija”.
“Strong, export-oriented manufacturing companies are the foundation of our economic growth and the well-being of our citizens. Today I am really honored to visit one of these companies and open a new production facility of “Laima”, a brand we all love so much. By investing in a new, modern plant in Latvia, “Orkla Latvija” has not only implemented another investment project in our country, it has also created new jobs and will generate additional tax revenue in the future. This important event is a vivid example of the revival of smart reindustrialization in Latvia with renewed energy. I congratulate the management and employees of the company on the opening of the new production plant, which means both a guaranteed presence of “Laima” products on the shelves and a contribution to our nation’s well-being,” says Krišjānis Kariņš, Prime Minister of the Republic of Latvia.
Construction of the production facility began in October 2017, the new “Laima” plant was topped out in October 2019, while in January 2020 a symbolic time capsule was placed in the foundations of the new plant, containing a message to future generations.
