During upcoming days, the construction site will be finalized and the preparation work to lay foundations for the production facility will start.

Investment is the foundation of a free market economy, and every investment is important for our economy. I am really pleased that at a time when the pandemic has shaken the world economy, Latvia is implementing projects for future growth and international competition. With long-term investment projects, the Orkla Group provides additional jobs and economic development not only in Riga, but also outside the capital. Today we see a clear example that Latvia is a place where to invest in the long run,” emphasizes the Minister for Economics of the Republic of Latvia Jānis Vitenbergs.

Today is the second time when “Orkla” welcomes guests on the land plot where an over 31,000 square meter wide and sustainable factory will be located in a very near future. In 2022 the largest biscuit and wafer factory in the Baltic States and Scandinavia will launch operations here. It will not only be a sustainability example in “Orkla” group and others, but also will add a positive value to the economics of Latvia, creating 250 new jobs,” Toms Didrihsons, Chairman of the Board of “Orkla Biscuit Production” and CEO of “Orkla Latvija”.

As informed previously, “Orkla Latvija’s” parent company has decided to build another plant in Ādaži, next to “Laima’s” new production facility, so there will already be seven Orkla plants in Latvia, three of which will be located in Ādaži. The new plant will specialize only in the production of biscuits and wafers and will be the largest of its kind in the Baltic States and Scandinavia. In addition to construction, significant investments in new equipment and production lines will follow, creating the largest investments in the Latvian food production sector in recent years, which will create about 250 new jobs. In total, about 75% of the products produced at “Orkla Biscuit Production” will be exported. It is planned that the new plant will start operating in 2022.

In May 2020, a new company, “Orkla Biscuit Production”, was established as part of a process to concentrate “Orkla’s” biscuit and wafer production in one location and to build a new plant in Ādaži, Latvia. Consequently, the production of biscuits and wafers from Kungälv (Sweden) and Riga will be transferred to the new plant. These changes will be made by 2022 and 2023.

On September 25 the construction company “Merks was selected as the builder of the new “Orkla Biscuit Production” biscuit and wafer factory. The total contract amount is almost 32 million euros and it foresee the construction of a new biscuit and wafer factory in Ādaži.
